A New Year

This morning began quietly after a night of celebration with friends. Jenee stayed the night with Madison and the rest of us padded around the house in our cmfortable clothes and bare feet. Shortly after noon we received a call from Teri. She was in tears. They were on the way home from skiing up north when they received a call from the kennel. Lambeau had jumped a six foot fence and had crossed the highway (66). People were out looking for him encluding Troopers.

We took off right away to join the search. I really thought we would get to the kennel and they would have caught him. Not to be. We ran into some members of the search party encluding Teri's brother. As we got information, people would drive by to say that they had seen Beau running around the lake.

We took off. Alan decided to go north and make our way to the east side of the lake. We really did not know where we were going. We ended up in an area recently cleared to be a new sub division. There is only one house being built right now. Cole and I walked toward the house and saw Lambeau. We yelled but he did not come to us. After a bit of conversation he bolted. Cole and I ran after but could not see him. We went to the lake and still did not see him. I decided this would be a great place to pee. There was a hunters outhouse complete with toilet seat and lid but I picked a couple of trees. Too much information perhaps but a part of this story. My break held us up a few minutes.

Cole and I headed back to the house and picked up on Beau's prints. We then heard Alan yelling. Cole and I ran to the van. Alan had Lambeau in our van.

Beau had run around the house and ended up near Alan. Alan talked to Beau and somehow he made it towards the van opening the door. Beau jumped right in.

We all got in and yes it STUNK of swampy, wet dog. But, we were all relieved. Alan had fed him some Junior Mints. For some reason Alan had one dog treat in his pocket. Really, have you seen Beau? He is a giant black lab. He must weigh 85 pounds. We called the kennel search party and then Mike and Teri. Beau was scared. Mike wanted us to have the kennel bathe Beau but Alan and I thought he was too freaked out and we did not want to tramatize him any more. We took him back to our house.

Lambeau hung out in our basement. We gave him a sponge bath of sorts and babied him a bit. A couple of hours later Mike and Teri arrived. It was a happy reunion. Teri insisted on looking at our van. Alan had cleaned it a bit already. Teri then came back later with Fabreez, a car air freshner and Junior Mints. Beau was a bit skiddish when he got home. We think he thought he was in trouble.

All ended well. We got a bit of exercise. Most of all we got a great story to tell. Like Cole said "All good stories have a happy ending."
