It is possible that our family just has an odd sense of humor. However, Al, Jenée and I got a big kick out of this article, particularly the last line. If you are thinking of skipping to the last line, don't. It will not be as funny.
REDEEMING 7,000 CANS: Two men, both 25, were questioned and later released after attempting to redeem nearly 7,000 drink cans at ************ police said the manager of the store called officers about 9:42 a.m. Sunday when the men, one Ukrainian and one Lithuanian, attempted to return cans from Florida, which does not have a deposit law. Officers said the men were driving a pick-up filled with cans and covered with a tarp. The men told police they were vacationing and said they had the cans to cash them in for money. The men denied they had any Mitten ties but said the *********** was the only store they knew about. The men told the officers they were refugees and seeking political asylum. An agent with the Immigration and Naturalization Service in ******* told police the men were in the country illegally and have been the subjects of several deportation hearings but continue to ask for political asylum which has prolonged the process. Police said they found no evidence of illegal activity by the men and, based on instructions from an immigration officer in ********, they were released. The men said they would dispose of the cans but complained to police because store officials had asked police during the investigation if the men were terrorists. The men told officers they were tourists, not terrorists.
Note: I do realize that most of my readers know where I live and anybody who wanted to know can just Google this and figure it out, but I choose to hide in my Mitten facade.
