Jenee was helping out at the community Holly Days event today. This has been around for years, but I don't know if either of the kids has ever gone. J went this year to get service hours.
Cole had a floor hockey game. Alan and I drove separately. My plan was to go to get J and look around. Cole came over and stood by me and said he was going with me. O.K. A friend standing by said "Oh, I remember when Noah used to go with me." I think this made Cole feel a bit more comfortable knowing that his friend had gone with his mom before.
We got to the school (Cole's school) and there were gobs of cars. As we were trekking in Cole said, "I don't get it. Why are they having it so early?" I answered, "Because they want give people a chance to get their holiday shopping done early." I swear I could hear a little poof as the light bulb went off in his head. "Oh. That's what it is. I was wondering," he said. Good thing we had this conversation, because I could not figure out why in the world a 10 (almost 11) year old boy would want to go to a craft show with his Mama. We were both enlightened.
It turns out we were not alone. On the way home Jenee said that she did not know what the Holly Days was about. Then she said, "That's a nice cover-up for a craft show."
